Calculating pricing for editing can be daunting and confusing. I’m breaking it down here to give you an idea of what to expect.
Novel Editing
I charge the industry standard rate for editing (but a little cheaper to keep it affordable for young authors). I use a document’s wordcount to calculate a fair price for work. Here are those rates and how to calculate them.
Editorial Assessment: $0.01
(example: wordcount 60,000 x .01 = $600.00 rate)
Developmental Editing: $0.018
(example: wordcount 60,000 x .018 = $1080.00 rate)
Copy Editing: $0.018
(example: wordcount 60,000 x .018 = $1080.00 rate)
Proofreading: $0.012
(example: wordcount 60,000 x .012 = $720.00 rate)
College Papers
With college papers, thesis writing, or proposals, I charge the industry rate. Because I’m not a professional with a degree in each field, I only offer copy editing and proofreading. Having a professional versed in your desired field would be preferable for editorial assessments and developmental editing.
Copy Editing: $0.018
(example: wordcount 60,000 x .018 = $1080.00 rate)
Proofreading: $0.013
(example: wordcount 60,000 x .013 = $780.00 rate)
Query Letters, Emails, and More Short Documents
I charge a flat rate for one to five page papers or emails formats.
$45.00 per hour (I will let you know if I believe the editing will take longer than a single hour before beginning.)
